Why Small Habits Matter When Reinventing Yourself
When it comes to resetting your life and reinventing yourself, many people think they need a major overhaul.
But here’s the truth: big changes are hard to maintain. It’s the small, consistent micro habits that are easier to stick with and often lead to lasting transformation.
Take a minute to think about this: If you improved by just 1% every day, imagine how much better your life could be in a year. This is the power of using small habits to change your life. Mini habits compound over time and create exponential growth.
So, if you’re wondering how to change your life, the answer lies in breaking down your goals into much smaller, manageable steps.
Let’s take a look at some simple habits that will change your life that you can start today.
Morning Habits to Change Your Life
The way you start your day sets the tone for the rest of it. Sticking with a strong morning routine is one of the most impactful ways that you can improve your productivity, your mindset, and your overall well-being.
These are four simple habits to change your life that I have made part of my morning routine. They’re super easy to do, and you can get started right now!
- Drink water first thing in the morning: Before you do anything else, I make sure that I hydrate my body. Overnight, your body loses water, so starting your day with a glass of water boosts your metabolism, improves your brain function, and gives you a nice natural boost of energy.
- Practice gratitude: Spend 5 minutes journaling about three things you’re grateful for. This simple habit rewires your brain to focus on the positive and sets a great tone for the day. Unsure of what you’re grateful for? Check out my collection of gratitude list ideas for inspiration!
Make gratitude a regular part of your day with your own personal gratitude journal or bullet journal!

- Move your body: I know, I know – the last thing you want to do is move when you first wake up. But whether it’s yoga, stretching, or a quick walk, morning movement wakes up your muscles and boosts your body’s endorphins. Consistent exercise, even if it’s just 10 minutes, is one of the best habits for a better life.
- Have a plan for your day: Take a few minutes to write down your top three priorities for the day. This creates focus and helps you align with your life goals. I have the most success with this when I write out my plan the night before!
How To Change Your Life Using Daily Habits
Incorporating small daily habits into your routine can lead to incredible long-term results. I have put together a short life of some mini self development habits that I have managed to make part of my daily routine.
- Read for 10 minutes: It isn’t always easy to find 10 quiet minutes, but I have managed to make reading a daily habit for relaxation and my own personal development. Try choosing books that inspire you or teach you something new. This is a great way to find life advice, spark creativity, and expand your knowledge. Check out my recommended books about purpose!
- Practice mindful eating: Slow down and savor your meals. Avoid distractions like your phone or TV while eating, and focus on the taste and texture of your food. Mindful eating can improve digestion, reduce stress, and help you maintain a healthy relationship with food.
- Do a 5-minute cleanup: My family spends 5 minutes tidying up our home every night. This small habit creates a sense of life organisation and sets us up for a successful morning.
- Step outside: Spend at least 10 minutes outdoors. Whether it’s a short walk or simply sitting in the sun, being in nature reduces stress and improves mood.

- Digital detox: This one is tricky! Try making a habit of turning off screens at least 30 minutes before bed. You will find yourself improving your sleep quality and giving your brain a chance to relax.
- Reflect on Your Day: Spend a few minutes journaling about what went well and what could be improved. Use journaling prompts like “what did I learn today?” or “what made me happy today?” This habit not only helps you reset your life on a daily basis but also improves self-awareness.
- Plan for tomorrow: Write down your goals or tasks for the next day. Having a plan in place reduces stress and helps you sleep better.

The Power of Habit Stacking
One effective way to build new habits is by using the technique of habit stacking. Habit stacking involves linking a new habit to an existing one.
For example:
- After brushing your teeth, spend 2 minutes meditating.
- While waiting for your morning coffee to brew, write down your top three priorities for the day.
- Before going to bed, list three things you’re grateful for.
Habit stacking is effective because you are piggybacking off of a habit that you are already used to doing! This makes it easier to integrate new habits to start into your life seamlessly.

Consistency is key when it comes to habit change. Try using these tips to help you stick with your new routine.

Use a self care bullet journal or habit tracker to visually monitor your progress. I use a habit tracker every day and I find seeing my streaks incredibly motivating!
