How to Set Goals and Crush Them (In 5 Easy Steps)

Goal setting is a great way to declare your intentions for your own personal growth. When you have big goals and dreams for your life, you will feel motivated and inspired to become the best version of yourself.

But have you ever felt like there are always road blocks when working toward your goals? These 5 easy steps will show you how to set goals and crush them so that nothing stands in your way!

Set Goals and Crush Them Meaning

Goal setting is a very common way to improve mental health and find personal growth. Whether it was prioritizing your physical health or scaling back on your social media usage, you’ve probably set and achieved a goal or two in your lifetime.

But would you consider yourself a goal crusher?

When you set goals and crush them, it means that you are doing such a great job at working toward your goal that you are progressing more than you could ever imagine.

Crushing your goal means that you are enjoying putting in the hard work so much that you don’t even really care about the end result anymore! When you reach this level while working toward important goals, you feel like you could take on the world!

But how exactly do you get to the point where you can set and crush a goal? For something that sounds like such hard work, you won’t believe how easy these 5 steps are!

How to Set Goals and Crush Them

1. State and understand your motivation

At some point, something in your life inspired you to set a goal. The first step to set goals and crush them is to understand what is motivating you to achieve your goals in the first place.

Goals are tricky. Sometimes we think we want something, but don’t seem to want it bad enough to put in the hard work to get it.

There is a simple reason why so many people don’t reach their goals, and that is because their goals lack value to them.

Value-driven goals are ones that have a specific personal meaning to you. They are life goals that are somehow connected to things that you value most.

Imagine that you are setting a goal to improve your physical health. This is a pretty common goal that many people have, but the motivation changes depending on what each person values. For example, one person might value the way they look, while another might value being in shape to be able to keep up with their young kids.

If you don’t have a good understanding of your values and your motivation for achieving your goals, it is unlikely that you will be successful.

So as your first step, take some time to reflect on your motivation for your specific goal. Are you deeply motivated to make a change in your life because of your values?

Having an understanding of your motivations will help you set goals and crush them!

2. Choose the right mindset

Everyone is capable of setting goals. That’s the easy part, right?

But how many people actually stick with their goals? And for those that do, how do they set goals and crush them? What is the secret?

We all want to live our best life. But a goal setting journey is guaranteed to be hard work, full of obstacles and challenges.

Everyone experiences setbacks when working toward goals. After all, goals are really just challenges to help us grow and improve!

But, the way you react to the setbacks you face is the deciding factor in whether you are successful in crushing your goals.

One way to help make sure you stick with your goals through the tough times is to use a growth mindset.

A growth mindset helps you rethink the way you see setbacks and failure. This is a tool that helps you see challenges as learning opportunities rather than permanent failures.

Setbacks and the tough times we face have the power to teach us how we can improve. All it takes is the right mindset.

Anything is possible when you have the right mindset. Setbacks do not have the power to stop you when you believe you can do anything!

So when you inevitably cave and eat an entire bag of chips during your weight loss goal challenge, don’t give up! Instead, think about how that setback can help you understand more about yourself. What was it that tempted you in the first place? How can you use your experience to help you stay on track next time you are tempted?

Find the learning experience and you will find growth!

3. Have a plan

There is an old saying that says ‘a goal without a plan is just a wish.’

It almost sounds obvious to say it, but you should have a plan in place to help you reach your goals. This is true regardless of whether you are setting a short-term small goal or bigger long-term goals.

If you have ever learned anything about setting goals, you may know that is important to make sure you are setting S.M.A.R.T. goals. These are goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely.

In short, you should know exactly when you have met your specific goal, and it shouldn’t be a goal so big and time consuming that it is impossible to reach.

Now, that isn’t to say that you can’t have big and ambitious goals. Quite the opposite, in fact!

Instead, set goals as big as your dreams can be! But consider creating a vision map to help break your bigger goals up into smaller tasks that you can manage in smaller steps. This will help you stay accountable to yourself!

Take some time to think about the obstacles you anticipate along the way. What resources will you have available to help you during the tough times?

4. Keep track of your progress

When setting goals, it is natural to want to look to the future to see how far you still have to go. But this can be discouraging when you are working toward bigger goals and your progress feels slow.

The best way to avoid discouragement is to look backwards at the progress you have made instead. Sometimes the past can paint a much more inspiring picture!

Take the time to reflect in your journal every night. Write down and keep track of the progress you have made. And don’t forget to celebrate the small victories!

When you feel discouraged, read through your journal. Think about all of the obstacles you have overcome and use your progress for inspiration to keep going!

Setting goals and crushing them can be a long process. But even if you are making slow progress, remember that slow progress is better than no progress!

5. Enjoy the process!

When you are setting big and ambitious goals, it is important that you remember why you are doing it in the first place. You are here to set goals and crush them!

Crushing goals means you are doing such a good job staying accountable to yourself that you don’t even think about how big your goal is. Instead, you just focus on how much you are enjoying every single day that you get to work toward your long term goal.

It is very easy for your goals to start feeling like hard work. So make sure to slow down and look around at what you are accomplishing along the way. And most of all, remember that the journey is much more important than the destination!

It’s time to Crush It!

Setting S.M.A.R.T. goals with a value-driven motivation and the right mindset are the most important things that you need to set goals and crush them. Add in a plan and the willingness to enjoy the process and you will be a goal crusher in no time!
