It’s Time To Take Ownership of Your Life (Before It’s Too Late)

Today. Right Now. You have the power to live your life in any way that you choose. It’s time for you to take ownership of your life.

You and only you have the power to choose how you will think, act, and behave in every single moment of your life. Start living the life you’ve always dreamed of. Today!

Take Ownership Meaning

It’s time for you to take ownership. Meaning, stop making excuses in your life and start taking accountability for your actions.

How many times have you said (or heard another person say) something along these lines:

  • “If I could just buy anything I wanted I would be happy.”
  • “Being overweight runs in my family. There is nothing I can do about it.”
  • “I don’t have time to work towards my life goals.”
  • “I hate my job. I’m going to be stuck in it forever.”
  • “I’m too busy to make healthy choices.”
  • “I’m too old to learn a new skill and change careers.”
  • “I will never get out of debt. No one ever taught me how to handle my money.”

All of these statements have one thing in common: they all remove responsibility and place it elsewhere.

But listen. It is so much easier to play the blame game and make up excuses than to take ownership of your life. However, this is no way to live!

And since you are here, it is evident that you aren’t looking to take the easy way out. Instead, you are willing to take ownership. And that’s what makes you different from most people and will help you thrive in life.

Taking ownership is taking power of every situation in your life. Empower yourself by taking ownership over every action, behavior, and thought.

Take Ownership Of Your Life

So own your life. Take ownership. Meaning, take responsibility where you would normally place blame.

  • Your own health: you are capable of eating healthy, exercising and treating your body right.
  • Your own financial security: you can get out of debt and live a life of financial freedom with the right choices.
  • Your own actions: it is possible to own your actions, but you have to choose to do so.
  • Your own freedom: you can live the life of your dreams, but you have to work towards achieving your life goals.
  • Your own future: your future is yours and only yours to create. How do you want your story to unfold?
  • Your own time: choose what you use your time on wisely. Time is finite. How will you choose to use it?
  • Your own life: you’ve got one life to live. How will you make yours count?

Every situation in your life is there for you to take ownership over. Taking ownership of your life is the only way to live a truly happy life.

Now, the question is: will you start taking ownership of your life moving forward? Or will you continue to place blame for anything that doesn’t go your way?

How To Take Control Of Your Life

If you are wondering how to take control of your life, check out these key points:

Take Accountability For Your Actions

Who doesn’t dread the word “accountability”? Taking accountability for your life sounds like you did something wrong. It sounds like you are taking blame for something.

But, to make it clear, taking accountability is NOT blaming yourself. Instead, taking accountability for your life means taking responsibility of your life.

Take this frequently used example: “I’m too busy to make healthy choices.”

Are you too busy though? Or are you just making excuses to justify eating a bag of chips for bed time snack instead of an apple?

Sure, a bag of chips tastes way better than an apple. And sure, tearing open a bag of chips is easier than washing, peeling and cutting an apple. But this does not make you too busy.

So hold yourself accountable in situations like this. And if you are going to choose the bag of chips instead of the apple, be honest with yourself.

Maybe chips help you feel numb after something annoying happened that day, or you are feeling too lazy to prep an apple. Whatever the reason may be, just hold yourself accountable to it.

Decide today to take ownership of your life. Stop making excuses for your actions and your behaviors. Instead, just for today, put your ego aside and choose to hold yourself accountable and see how it feels.

Take Ownership Over Your Attitude

To take ownership over your attitude is to recognize that your attitude is your altitude. The attitude you have determines how happy, healthy, and successful you are.

So, why don’t we take ownership of our lives? Well, it can be hard to feel responsible when we make poor decisions, or when we fail. Instead, it feels much better for our ego to place blame elsewhere. It is easier to have a negative attitude and complain about life’s circumstances then it is to take ownership over them!

But it is time to change your attitude! Next time you fail, rather than placing blame, take some time to reflect on your own shortcomings to find growth opportunities.

Change your attitude and admit that you are a developing person with flaws. You aren’t alone!
