Never Let The Fear Of Striking Out Keep You From Playing The Game

Do you fear failure, change, or the unknown? Does it ever stop you from trying new and exciting things? One of the most famous Babe Ruth quotes ‘never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game‘ may be just what you need to start living outside of your comfort zone and embracing the uncertainties of life!

‘Never Let The Fear Of Striking Out Keep You From Playing The Game’ Meaning

To say never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game is just another way of saying don’t let your fears dictate what you do and do not do with your life.

Fear comes in many forms. It could be the fear of failure, the fear of other people’s opinions, or the fear of change and the unknown. Regardless of its form, fear can hold a firm grip on us if we allow it to. It makes it harder to make life decisions and take risks.

Harder, yes, but not impossible.

It is possible to grow beyond what other people think of you. And it is possible to grow past your fears of failure, change, and the unknown.

It takes a certain growth mindset, but it is possible to find opportunities for growth in failure and challenges. No one likes to fail, but there is always a lesson in failure that helps us improve for next time. If you can focus in on these lessons, it will be easier to never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.

Threats and the Safety of Our Comfort Zones

Fear is designed to let you know that there is a threat nearby. It is your body’s way of telling you to take shelter from a coming storm.

But storms pass. And when they do, it is time to come out of hiding!

The problem is that we sometimes overexaggerate certain threats. And when we blow up the threat in our minds, it feels so scary that we avoid it entirely and run to the safety of our comfort zones.

And there is nothing wrong with that! You can’t exactly live a happy and carefree life if you are constantly feeling scared. At some point you need safety and security.

But, you also need to realize that, eventually, you need to start ‘playing the game’ again.

Vulnerability and Courage

It is okay to be afraid. If you are afraid of something, it might be because you know that there is potential to make a mistake.

But, mistakes are proof that you are trying. When you try, there is a chance that you could fail, be judged, etc. But this just means you will get to learn something and grow!

However, it is the fear of failing or being judged that often keeps people in the safety of their comfort zones.

Being vulnerable means showing up as yourself despite the risks that come with it. This takes a lot of courage. But when we are vulnerable, we live our lives with our whole hearts. We get the opportunity to make our own decisions without worrying about the opinions of others.

Often, this means identifying the false truths and limiting beliefs you tell yourself. These are the things we tell ourselves to justify not ‘playing the game’. What sorts of things do you tell yourself to excuse yourself from taking risks?

Why You Need to ‘Keep Playing the Game’

So, you did it! Even though you felt fear, you left your comfort zone anyways. You took a big risk, and it paid off! You have grown as a person and are in a really great place. Things are even comfortable again.

After some time though, you will settle into your comfort zone again. It is only natural.

When you overcome a challenge, enjoy the comfort for a while. But at some point, you are bound to come across another big scary challenge. And when you do, it will be time to revisit your trusty ‘never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game‘ quote again.

Life is a constant tug of war between being comfortable and being uncomfortable. I don’t believe there is such a thing as being permanently comfortable. As soon as this happens, you will eventually feel bored, and maybe even complacent in what you are doing.

The key is to push further each time you get comfortable. Don’t settle in too long, or it will be that much harder to face the fear of striking out again when the time comes.

Don’t forget to share this post with your friends and family on social media! This could be the push they need to step outside of their comfort zones!
